He said women’s reproductive rights are a key issue for him. Moree said he personally couldn’t support having an abortion but that doesn’t mean someone else shouldn’t have the right to have one. Similarly, he said removing a book from school because the parent of a child there dislikes it infringes on rights of parents who might want their children to read the book.
“One by one, rights are being taken away. And it’s time for to stop that.” Moree said a professor he had in graduate school stated, “You can’t legislate morality.” He said this lesson should have been learned with the failure of prohibition in the 1920s and early 1930s.
