I recall numerous patients—a pre-teen victim of sexual abuse by a foster father, a woman literally attacked by a once-friendly boss late one night (and afraid to report it to the authorities), a pregnant woman who spent the night bleeding heavily in the ICU—where patients and their families, along with their physicians, made a decision to terminate the pregnancy. It must remain a woman’s right to make such a serious decision. And simply declaring exceptions for women…”

In the Senate District 26 race, Republican incumbent Phil Berger will face Democratic challenger Dr. Steve Luking. Berger reiterated his support of abortion restrictions…..Luking, a physician, remarked that he did not support the abortion bil [SB 20, the twelve week ban]…."I’m a family doctor and I’ve fought my whole life to preserve life, save life and extend lives. But I also fought my whole life as a doctor to honor the autonomy of each patient to make their own rightful decision on how they care for themselves and their own healthcare,” said Luking.

He was a speaker at a rally entitled "We Won't Go Back! Rally for Reproductive Freedom" hosted by the Guilford County Democratic Party. "Pro-Choice Get Out the Vote Rally sponsored by 15 different organizations. Speakers include Sen. Rachel Hunt, Justice Allison Riggs and Dr. Steve Luking. All the candidates up and down the ballot have been invited and will be meeting constituents. Bring your posters and chants. It's going to be a rally to remember, because we won't go back!
