Take Action

What to do now:

Tell Robert how important abortion rights are to you:

This legislator has made their anti-choice position clear. They intend to enact laws that would further limit access to abortion.

What to say:

Call your legislator to share how important abortion rights are to you. While you're on the phone, try to gain a deeper understanding of their exact position.

  • Introduce yourself, including your relation to the district.
  • Emphasize your role in the local community.
  • Explain why abortion rights are important to you.
  • Ask if they will commit to voting for any legislation that will protect the right to an abortion.
  • If they say no, ask which abortion restrictions they are pushing for.

Ted Davis appeared as a guest on The NHC GOP podcast, where he said, "I’ve been told that if I vote to override the veto, they were coming to get me. They would make it their mission to ensure that I was never reelected. I even had someone say that there will be a curse against the women in my family, meaning my wife, my daughter and my two granddaughters. And that women would remember in November every and every election going forward. If I ever tried to run for reelection again." Host Reuel Sample said, "Ted Davis, Charlie Miller, Michael Lee and our other Republican elected officials showed amazing courage and fortitude in getting SB 20 past the veto and into law."

During the 2022 election campaign, I stated that I supported the current abortion law in NC and I would vote to keep it as it was. I did not specifically “promise” anything… I have received in excess of 5,000 emails, texts, and telephone calls concerning this matter, some of which were very nasty and disrespectful…. As for my Caucus, I knew that everyone other than me was going to vote for the override and I was not going to turn my back on my fellow Caucus members. For those reasons, I voted for the override. I cannot begin to tell you the pressure that I have been under concerning the vote on the veto override. It has been said that I made all kinds of promises, which I never made.

“I support what the law is in North Carolina now and that is if a woman desires to have an abortion up to 20 weeks, which is the second trimester of pregnancy, she can have an abortion. But after that, I believe in reasonable restrictions. Those reasonable restrictions are rape, incest, unviable fetus, or danger to the health of the mother.”
