What to do now:

Tell Jerry how important it is that we codify the right to an abortion:

This legislator seems to believe that abortion rights are fine as-is, even after the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

What to say:

Call your legislator and push them to vote to protect abortion rights. They may be open to switching positions if they hear enough from their constituents.

  • Introduce yourself, including your relation to the district.
  • Emphasize your role in the local community.
  • Explain why it is important to you that the right to abortion be protected. Personal stories can help.
  • Ask if they will commit to voting for any legislation that will protect the right to an abortion.
  • If they say no, ask if they will commit to voting against any legislation that will further limit access to abortion.

After winning the Republican primary in House District 59, Alan Branson was appointed in April 2024 to fill the seat of Jon Hardister, who resigned before the end of his term. As of July 2024, Branson does not have a substantial voting record on this issue. Existing NC law at the time he took office bans abortion after 12 weeks, with longer limits in cases of rape, incest, and fatal fetal anomaly.
