“Yesterday’s ruling is a victory for the women of Georgia. For too many, this has been a deeply painful and uncertain time—with lives lost, futures placed on hold, and already difficult decisions made even harder.”

“This is the first time an abortion related death has been reviewed and found preventable since our abortion ban became law. We warned our colleagues about this.”

“I will also fight back against any efforts that attempt to take away a woman’s right to choose. Women’s health care is too often a secondary issue in the state legislature - until it comes time to take our rights away. I will do everything I can to protect and expand our power over our own bodies.”

“I am so disappointed by the Georgia Supreme Court’s ruling. There are so many reasons why a woman and her partner may choose abortion and none of those reasons are my business (or yours either). Georgia’s 6-week abortion ban is one of the strictest in the nation. This ban disregards the autonomy, health, and well-being of women, and disproportionately affects those in vulnerable situations. Remember too: Georgia has the worst maternal mortality rate in this country. Georgia ranks amongst the worst of all states in the country for healthcare overall. Half of Georgia’s 159 counties do not have a single OB/GYN These are disastrous statistics which are about to get worse…”

Wore green yesterday in solidarity with the worldwide fight for safe #abortion access. Here’s part of what I had to say on the senate floor “We don’t have an abortion crisis in this state, we have a sex education crisis, a maternal health crisis, a sexual health crisis, a foster care crisis and even an ob-gyn crisis”. If we want to prioritize health care for the 5 million women in this state, there is plenty to focus on rather than limiting access to abortion care. On the first day of womens history month, SB456 passed along party lines on the senate floor. This bill limits access to medical abortion by mail by banning telehealth visits and requiring they be in-person. It also promotes junk political talking points, not even junk science, about abortion reversals.

“Today marks 49 years since the Supreme Court sided with a woman’s right to choose in the landmark Roe v. Wade decision. A majority of people who have an #abortion are already parents. Parenting with dignity includes the right to make decisions about your own pregnancy, body, health, family and future. That’s why we have to change the way abortion is treated in this country. On the 49th anniversary of #Roe and every day, we fight for abortion to remain not just legal but accessible too.”

Signed a brief addressed to the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold abortion rights. Stating: “The constitutional precepts which State Legislators must protect include the principle enunciated by this Court, as firmly encompassed by the right to privacy, that a woman has the right to decide to terminate a pre-viability pregnancy without undue governmental interference…. “As a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution, and one that strikes at the heart of ordered liberty and individual autonomy, a woman’s right to decide whether to terminate a pre-viability pregnancy should be insulated from the rhetoric and interests of groups whose sole purpose is to undermine Roe and eliminate the fundamental rights enunciated in that case….”

“Today, I’m proud to join a record-high 897 state lawmakers in demanding the Supreme Court protect reproductive freedom and uphold 50 years of legal abortion in all 50 states as it decides the future of abortion rights in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. Texas is already showing us what a world without the protections of Roe v. Wade looks like — one where wealthier people can travel to get reproductive care while poorer, often Black, Latino, and Indigenous people are stripped of their rights. We can’t let that become the norm and endanger millions of pregnant women and people.”
