“The Supreme Court has overturned 50 years of precedent that protected women's rights to make choices about our healthcare. Overturning Roe v. Wade is an outrage. Democrats must now end the filibuster in the Senate, codify Roe v. Wade, and once again make abortion legal and safe. Criminalizing abortion undermines public safety and public trust. Further, it threatens the lives of women. This immoral decision tells women that our bodies are not our own. We will never accept this backward view. We’re in a fight to restore our constitutional rights. And we’re in it to win it!”

Stating: “The constitutional precepts which State Legislators must protect include the principle enunciated by this Court, as firmly encompassed by the right to privacy, that a woman has the right to decide to terminate a pre-viability pregnancy without undue governmental interference…. “As a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution, and one that strikes at the heart of ordered liberty and individual autonomy, a woman’s right to decide whether to terminate a pre-viability pregnancy should be insulated from the rhetoric and interests of groups whose sole purpose is to undermine Roe and eliminate the fundamental rights enunciated in that case….”

Review Bill

Sen. Nan Orrock (D—Atlanta) introduced Senate Bill 427 today, which would allow state employees to obtain abortion services through state insurance plans for instances of rape or incest. “If we deny women adequate and appropriate healthcare, we are affecting real lives in the most egregious manner,” said Sen. Orrock. “According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in five American women report to be a victim of rape. If we remove insurance coverage, we’re creating an unforgivable barrier for these victims of rape and incest to gain access to the legal medical care that they deserve.”
