“State Representative Kim Schofield held a press conference to highlight her House Resolution that would codify abortion rights into state law. House Resolution 836 would establish ‘a fundamental right to reproductive freedom and such right shall not be denied, burdened, or infringed upon.’ If it passes both chambers, it would go to the voters in November.”

More than four in five Georgians agree that when someone decides to have an abortion, that decision should be up to them, not the government," said Rep. Schofield. "The Right to Reproductive Freedom Resolution would use the power of our democracy and allow the people of Georgia to enshrine individuals' right to make decisions about their own healthcare. Georgians are asked to contact their legislators in favor of upholding the right to privacy and reproductive freedom. The women of Georgia need the people of Georgia to stand up with them.

“On the Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, we commemorate the landmark Supreme Court decision that affirmed a woman’s right to choose and access safe and legal abortion services. This historic ruling, handed down on January 22, 1973, has been pivotal in upholding, reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy for women across the United States. Unfortunately, this is not a day of celebration, but serves as a call to action in Georgia and across this nation reminding us of the ongoing importance of defending and protecting women’s reproductive rights and access to healthcare. I will continue to fight! We are not done!”

“Today marks the one year since the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade removed the federal protection for abortion care. Abortion bans and restrictions do nothing to protect anyone's health or safety, and have had a devastating impact on residents and providers in Georgia, the surrounding southern states, and across the country. On June 14, I attended a White House State Legislative Convening on Reproductive Rights. We will continue our fight! We need your voice.”

“Let me be clear: outlawing abortions does not stop abortions but just limits the access to safe abortions”

“I am very angry seeing the draft opinion from the Supreme Court on overturning Roe and Casey – more frequently known as access to safe abortions. While this is a draft and votes can change and abortion is not illegal yet. This seems inevitable. We need to take action and speak up and vote. Overturning of Roe will put the decision of access into state control. Now more than ever is it important to vote down ballot. I would also urge the US Senate to pass the Womens Health Protection Act and codify access to safe abortions in this country. Remember, outlawing abortions will not stop abortions but just limit the access to safe abortions.”

Signed a brief addressed to the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold abortion rights. Stating: “The constitutional precepts which State Legislators must protect include the principle enunciated by this Court, as firmly encompassed by the right to privacy, that a woman has the right to decide to terminate a pre-viability pregnancy without undue governmental interference…. “As a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution, and one that strikes at the heart of ordered liberty and individual autonomy, a woman’s right to decide whether to terminate a pre-viability pregnancy should be insulated from the rhetoric and interests of groups whose sole purpose is to undermine Roe and eliminate the fundamental rights enunciated in that case….”
